Cops Shoot SJ Man in the Back After Fleeing in Stolen Car

San Jose police have identified two men involved in an officer-involved shooting Friday morning when California Highway Patrol and city police officers tried to stop a stolen vehicle, police said.

Around 11:30 p.m. Thursday night detectives spotted a stolen 1990 Ford Mustang at the corner of McLaughlin Avenue and Barrington Court. Surveillance was set up and detectives waited for the suspect to return to the stolen car, according to police.

Around 12:05 a.m. two suspects arrived in a different car. One man, later identified as 31-year-old San Jose resident Filogonio Orozco -- who also goes by Juan Manuel Carrasco, got into the driver's seat of the stolen Mustang and drove away as officers attempted to stop the car, according to police.

Orozco refused to stop and quickly drove away. Officers pursued Orozco as he made a U-turn and accelerated toward officers. This was when a CHP officer and a 33-year-old San Jose police officer shot at Orozco in the stolen car with their duty weapons, according to police.

Orozco was hit in the back. He was taken to the hospital where he is being treated and expected to survive, police said.

The second suspect, 40-year-old San Jose resident Geovanne Mario Jimenez, was arrested without incident, police said.

The officer-involved shooting is the city's second since the beginning of 2011, police said.
