    Brush Fire Scorches Hills East of Milpitas

    A blaze ignited in the hills of Milpitas Sunday afternoon and swiftly spread across steep terrain to the east, charring dry drush and destroying at least one structure in the process, according to Cal Fire. Thom Jensen reports.

    A fire that sparked Sunday in the hills east of Milpitas is nearing full containment as of this morning, according to Cal Fire.

    The Country Fire, which has burned 320 acres at Ed R. Levin County Park in unincorporated Santa Clara County, was 90 percent contained as of 7 a.m. Tuesday and full containment is expected Wednesday, Cal Fire officials said.

    It was first reported at 1:05 p.m. Sunday and its cause is under investigation.

    One structure was destroyed in the blaze. Ten others were threatened but are no longer in danger from the fire, according to Cal Fire.

    All roads in the area that had been closed have since been reopened, but fire crews will remain in the area to locate and extinguish hot spots.
