Coyote Spotted Roaming Around Danville

An animal rescue organization is trying to track down a coyote seen roaming in the streets of Danville.

Wildlife Emergency Services said the coyote suffers from mange and has lost most of his fur and its skin is covered with mites. Rescuers said they got word last week that the coyote was seen around the East Bay city.

Neighbor Jim Ross, who was out for a walk with his dog Kona on Monday night, said he's not concerned over one sick coyote.

"You have cougars and bobcats and the raccoons, which Contra Costa County thinks is a protected species, so they're rampant everywhere," Ross said.

Crews set humane traps this past weekend, but were unable to catch the coyote.

The animal rescue organization is hoping to treat the coyote and return it to the wild.

Anyone who sees the coyote is asked to call police.
