Crews Battle Marijuana Grow Fire in San Francisco

San Francisco fire crews battled a dangerous two-alarm blaze Tuesday morning after they said a secret marijuana grow house, boarded up with plywood, was discovered.

Windows and a skylight were covered in plywood, making the home on Tucker Avenue in Visitacion Valley a "trap," for firefighters when they arrived about 12:40 a.m., said Battalion Chief Tom Abbott.

No one was hurt while fighting the fire, and no one was inside the residence. But fire crews discovered about 60 pot plants, bags of buds, grow lights and other hydroponic equipment inside. Also, the electrical wires were rigged throughout the home, bypassing the proper PG&E route, Abbott said, which is dangerous and a red flag to firefighters.

These grow operations are unfortunately becoming the "bread and butter" emergencies for firefighters, Abbott said.

Police will be investigation who is responsible for the grow house.
