Hundreds Without Water After Main Break in Potrero Hill

San Francisco Public Utilities Commission personnel are at the scene of a water main break in the city's Potrero Hill neighborhood Saturday morning.

An 8-inch water main burst around 9:30 a.m., sending water gushing onto Kansas Street between 22nd and 23rd streets, according to SFPUC spokeswoman Alison Kastama.

The break has left residents within the one-block area without water.

Crews are on scene are working the stop the flow of water and to fix the pipe but an estimate for repairs to be completed was not available, the spokeswoman said.

Kastama said she did not know what caused the main break but said ruptures are typically linked to aging pipes.
