Crossing Guard Arrested for DUI in Crosswalk Crash

A San Rafael school crossing guard was arrested on her way to work Thursday for allegedly driving under the influence and running into a woman carrying a toddler in a crosswalk.

Joann Wisnes, 67, was arrested at 8:15 a.m Thursday after striking a 25-year-old woman and her 3-year-old son with her Ford Explorer as they crossed the intersection of Fourth and Union streets near San Rafael High School.

Police told the Marin Independent Journal that Wisnes admitted to drinking a small bottle of vodka at 7 a.m. before driving to work as a crossing guard at Glenwood Elementary School.

The toddler and his mother suffered only minor injuries in the incident.

Authorities told the paper that this is Wisnes' second DUI-related collision since July. The district attorney's office is still investigating the incident and has yet to file charges.
