Curran Theatre is running a series of programming during renovations that places audience members right on stage in the center of the action.
The historic 93-year-old San Francisco venue's Curran: Under Construction launched Wednesday with Scottish play "The Events."
Highlights of the schedule, which is filled through January 2016, include musician Dave Malloy's spiritual song cycle "Ghost Quartet," performances by Steve Cuiffo as late comedian Lenny Bruce (Nov. 19-21) and Taylor Mac's 24-decade history of popular music (Jan. 21-31).
Don't get too used to being on stage, though: The Curran plans to re-open as a full venue in 2017.
