Student Driver Crashes into DMV

The California Department of Motor Vehicles is considering issuing a warning to driving instructors so they will avoid practicing in DMV parking lots after a student driver plowed into the department's Roseville office, leaving a 4-foot by 5-foot hole in the wall.

DMV spokesman Mike Marando said Tuesday that no one was injured in the crash, which occurred about 7 p.m. Monday and did not involve state personnel. The student was taking private lessons.

Marando says the male student who smashed through the Roseville office is believed to have hit the gas instead of the brake. He says similar accidents have occurred at least three other times in the past five years.

The office, 17 miles northeast of Sacramento, will be closed to most services the rest of the week.
