Friends Create Online Donation Site for Family of Danika Garcia, San Jose Girl Killed By VTA Train

Friends of a teenage girl who was hit and killed by a light rail train have created an online donation site for her funeral arrangements.

A memorial has grown on the spot the VTA train hit 14-year-old Danika Garcia while she was riding her bike across the tracks to get to school on Friday.

Grief counselors are scheduled to be on hand when classes resume Tuesday at San Jose's Del Mar High School, where Garcia was a freshman.

Deputies say Danika was riding her bike on Southwest Expressway Friday morning when she was hit just across the street from her high school.
Friends say she was a kind girl.

"She was an open girl," Garcia's friend Faven Demessai said. "She loved to sing. She couldn't care less about what people said about her. She was so kind and caring."
