Danville Homicide Suspect Dead in Apparent Suicide in Illinois

A man suspected of fatally shooting a senior citizen in Danville on Sunday afternoon has died of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound in St. Charles, Illinois, according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office.

Mark Allen Sypien, 51, allegedly shot and killed 76-year-old John Moore in a parking lot on Fostoria Way around 2:25 p.m. Sunday, according to Danville police. Moore died at the scene.

Investigators identified Sypien as a suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest. A three-day manhunt ensued, but he apparently fled the state.

Sypien was found outside his parents home in Illinois on Wednesday, injured, and died from those injuries.

"While we regret the further loss of life, we are pleased that we were able to resolve the case," Danville Police Chief Allan Shields said in a statement.

The case remains under investigation, according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office, and local detectives are working with their counterparts in the Kane County Sheriff's Office.

Anyone with information relevant to that investigation is asked to call (925) 313-2600.
