Day Along the Water Ends in Apparent Drowning

The search for an 11-year-old girl who went missing after swimming near the Pittsburg Marina Saturday night resumed Sunday morning, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

A Coast Guard boat, two helicopters, a Contra Costa County boat and a shallow-water boat had been deployed Saturday night to search the area  where the girl was last seen, according to the Coast Guard.

The girl was reported missing at about 7:45 p.m. Saturday after  going swimming in the water off Riverview Park with a group of friends, Coast  Guard Lt. Steve Youde said.

County divers will continue looking for the girl,  but the Coast Guard will not resume its search, according to the Coast Guard.

The girl was reportedly not wearing a life jacket and was last  seen near a fishing pier near the Pittsburg Marina, Youde said.

It is the second apparent drowning of a child this weekend.

A 2-year-old died after falling into a pool Friday in  Antioch during a family barbecue, according to police.

Officers responded to the home on Rockspring Way at about 8:40  p.m. on the report of the child falling into the water.

Medical personnel, along with officers, tried to resuscitate the  victim. The child was transported to Sutter Delta Medical Center and  pronounced dead.

It isn't known how long the child was out of someone's sight,  police said.

The case remains under investigation.
