A man was killed and two others were injured Monday in a shooting on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge that caused several cars to collide and shut down all eastbound traffic lanes for hours, authorities said.

The San Francisco Medical Examiner's Office identified the man killed in the incident as Darryl Stinnette, 31, from Mesquite, Texas.

The three men were riding in a sport utility vehicle heading from San Francisco to Oakland about 2:20 a.m. when a vehicle pulled alongside it and someone opened fire at the SUV, California Highway Patrol Officer Bert Diaz said.

The driver of the SUV died at the scene, and another man was shot and wounded. A third man suffered injuries from the collision, Diaz said. The injured men were taken to San Francisco General Hospital.

The SUV swerved and hit a sedan, Diaz said.

Raul Lopez said he was caught in the middle of it all: "I was like right in the middle of the cross-fire. Like, the pops were on my left side. And once I heard the five pops, the guy in the SUV just hits me and turns around. And we both turn around. And I’m lucky the other cars didn’t hit me, or hit him."

Authorities closed all eastbound lanes for multiple hours to allow for officials to investigate before opening up three left lanes and later all lanes.

Authorities said they are looking for a gray or silver car involved in the shooting.

Monday's deadly shooting occurred several hours after at least one person was injured during another freeway shooting along Interstate 80 near Pinole.
