Doctor Implicated In Homeless Drug-Selling Ring

Federal prosecutors say S.F. doctor wrote phony prescriptions.

Thousands of bogus prescriptions for powerful prescription painkillers written in exchange for cash could land a San Francisco doctor in jail for 20 years, according to reports.

Federal prosecutors say that Dr. Collin Leong, 68, wrote "bogus" painkiller prescriptions for homeless people in exchange for cash payments, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Leong has pleaded not guilty, but not before allegedly telling undercover federal agents all about a scheme that lasted seven years and netted him as much as $400,000.

Leong would take between $80 and $150 in exchange for a prescription for a patient he never saw, the newspaper reported. An agent at one time bought 12 prescriptions for $1,000, the newspaper reported.
