A routine traffic stop in the South Bay ended in a huge meth bust.

The Santa Clara County sheriff's department released details of the bust Tuesday.  Officers pulled over a female driver near Gilroy along Highway 101 and Highway 152 last Friday.

A K-9 unit along with special units of the DEA and Sheriff's Methamphetamine Enforcement Team detectives discovered 39 pounds of methamphetamine hidden in various compartments inside the vehicle. One of them was inside the back brake light of the car.

They didn't say what prompted them to search the car so thoroughly.

Investigators said the drugs are worth $430,000.

The driver, a 54-year-old woman from Tijuana, was arrested and booked on possession and transportation of methamphetamine for sale, as well as importing a controlled substance into the state.  She is being held on a no bail warrant.

Investigators said she entered California through Otay Mesa with the attempt to distribute the drugs in San Jose
