Doggie Danger: Oakland Woman Accused of Schnauzer Abuse

A pair of schnauzers have been taken away from an Oakland woman who now faces two counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty, after the woman brought the dogs into a dog groomer who found the animals "emaciated and covered with foxtails," according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Oakland resident Morenike O'Neal, 37, reportedly brought her 12-year-old male schnauzers, Granite and Guido, to a Hayward dog groomer in June with severely matted fur and foxtails embedded in the dogs' paws, genitals and throat, according to animal welfare officials. In addition, the dogs' teeth were rotten and infected, according to the newspaper.

The dogs were turned over to shelters and O'Neal reported to police when she refused to pay for her dogs' medical bills, according to the newspaper.

A volunteer group, Friends of Oakland Animal Services, paid for the dogs' veterinary and dental treatments. The dogs, each about 15 pounds, are now at the Oakland animal shelter awaiting adoption, the newspaper reported.

So come and get them!
