Dozens Fall Ill at NAACP Gala in Redwood City

Health officials are trying to figure out what made dozens of people sick at an NAACP gala in Redwood City.

Fifty people reported getting sick. Twelve of them had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance and treated for dehydration, according to the Mercury News.

Hundreds of people were at the gala inside the Sofitel San Francisco Bay Hotel in Redwood City.

The paper reports several people got sick after eating a dinner of salmon and salad.

"It was a terrible scene," the head of the civil rights organization's Oakland chapter told the paper. "Other hotel guests were very upset."

Officials won’t know what caused people to become ill for several days.
