Driver Arrested After Ramming CHP Cars

A 40-year-old Oakland man was arrested Wednesday after California Highway Patrol officers said he led them on a chase and rammed two patrol vehicles while trying to escape.

Demond Abrams was arrested on suspicion of felony evading, DUI, driving while unlicensed and weapons charges.

The pursuit started after CHP officers tried to pull him over on the Coolidge Avenue off-ramp of Interstate Highway 580. Abrams took off, the CHP said, and tried to get away by trying to ram two patrol cars. The CHP said he may face additional charges related to those patrol vehicles.

When officers arrested him, the CHP said they found a loaded gun in the car.
