Driver Takes Fatal Plunge in Big Sur

A fiery solo car crash off state Highway 1 in Big Sur killed the vehicle's driver Friday morning, according to the Monterey County Sheriff's
Office.

At about 9:20 a.m., a vehicle plunged from a 300-foot cliff at the 28-mile marker of Highway 1, and the vehicle became fully engulfed in flames.

The California Highway Patrol, Big Sur Fire Brigade and a sheriff's search and rescue team all responded to the scene, where they found the badly damaged vehicle below with the deceased man inside.

An autopsy of the unidentified man is scheduled for Monday.
