Driver Trapped in Overturned Big-Rig on Highway 101

Firefighters extricated a driver who was trapped in an overturned big-rig on U.S. Highway 101 in San Jose Thursday afternoon, fire and California Highway Patrol officials said.

The big-rig was reported overturned at 1:10 p.m. on southbound Highway 101 near the Alum Rock Avenue off-ramp, CHP officials said.

The driver was trapped in the truck's cab after the crash but San Jose firefighters managed to get him out, according to the fire department.

The truck was hauling dirt that spilled in the roadway and needed to be cleaned up, according to the CHP. Fire officials said that oil spilled from the truck and needed to be cleaned as well.

A Sig-alert was issued advising motorists that three lanes of the highway were closed and would remain closed until at least 2:30 p.m. Traffic is at a standstill in the area and drivers are urged to seek alternate routes, CHP officials said.
