Dungeness Crab Season Opens in Bay Area, Not in Stores Yet

The dungeness crab season opened Saturday in the Bay Area, but you will not be seeing them in stores just yet.

Commercial crabbing does not start for another two weeks.

Recreational fisherman are getting a jump start this weekend, as there are big expectations for a good season.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife said the crab populations appear to be very strong, following two record-setting years in the commercial fishing industry.
