Early Morning 1-Alarm Fire Guts Vacant House in Vallejo

Firefighters extinguished a fire at a vacant house in Vallejo early Sunday morning, but the roof collapsed and the residence was deemed a total loss.

According to Vallejo Fire Department Captain Arthur Gonzalez, the fire, which sparked on the 900 block of Palou Street, was reported around 4:57 a.m. Multiple callers said that flames were through the roof, he said.

Crews responded to a "fully involved" fire, Gonzalez said, forcing firefighters to go into "defensive mode" to protect nearby houses.

The fire was under control within 20 minutes and limited to one alarm, according to Gonzalez.

No civilians or firefighters were injured by the blaze. Its cause is under investigation, Gonzalez said.
