    A preliminary 3.9 magnitude earthquake struck near Hollister Tuesday morning, according to the USGS.

    The quake hit at 8:21 a.m., the USGS said. It was centered 14.2 miles south-southeast of Hollister and 20.1 miles east of Salinas.

    Further information was not immediately available.
