East Bay Community Groups Will Host Vigil Monday to Oppose ICE Raids

Religious groups and immigrant-support organizations will hold a vigil Monday at two East Bay churches to oppose the deportation of immigrants.

The vigil will take place at 6:30 p.m. at St. Jarlath Church, 2620 Pleasant St. in Oakland, and St. Clement Church, 750 Calhoun St. in Hayward.

Hosts of the vigil hope the event encourages law enforcement not to collaborate with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to Oakland-based nonprofit Faith in Action East Bay.

"This is a time of urgency with the fear and anger in our community," Emma Paulino, of the FIAEB said in a written statement.

"We must come together as soon as possible and figure out how to show solidarity and love, both materially and spiritually, to end the fear and hatred," Paulino said.
