East Bay Girl Seeks Donations to Help Homeless During Holidays

With just a few days until Thanksgiving a 12-year-old in the East Bay is using her vacation time to give back to the community.

Aaliyah Washington has been working for weeks to collect items for the homeless.

The 12-year-old girl has worked with her family to bring "Christmas to Richmond," a program aimed at helping the less fortunate during the holiday season. Now Aaliyah has her sights set on taking "Thanksgiving to Los Angeles."

She needs items like socks, soap and white T-shirts.

"It's hard to see people on the street," Aaliyah said. "You don't know how they got there so in a heartbeat that could be me."

Donations to help Aaliyah's dream can be dropped off at the Courtyard Marriott on Garrity Way in Richmond.
