San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee is inviting members of the public to come out to his inauguration ceremony Sunday at City Hall, where he will be sworn in as the city's first elected Asian mayor.
Lee, who was appointed as mayor last January after Gavin Newsom was elected the state's lieutenant governor, was elected in November to a four-year term.
To celebrate his inauguration, the city is hosting a ceremony at City Hall that will feature several musical and dance performances from groups including the San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco Boys Chorus and dancers from World Arts West's San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival.
Former Mayor Willie Brown will serve as the master of ceremonies, and Senator Dianne Feinstein will administer the mayoral oath of office to Lee.
Lee defeated a crowded field of 16 mayoral contenders in November, eventually coming out ahead 60 percent to 40 percent over Supervisor John Avalos after 12 rounds of ranked-choice voting.
During the campaign, Lee fought off allegations of impropriety by his campaign, as well as criticism that he reneged on his pledge not to run for mayor when he was appointed.
Lee was busy during his year as appointed mayor, including overseeing negotiations to revamp pension plans for city workers, developing plans for the 2013 America's Cup sailing race, convincing the microblogging company Twitter to stay in San Francisco via a tax break, and negotiating to close a $306 million budget deficit.

Between when Lee was appointed last January and when he was elected to the full term in November, the city's unemployment rate dropped from 9.5 percent to 7.8 percent.
Sunday's ceremony, which is open to the public, is set to begin at 11 a.m. Doors will open at City Hall at 10 a.m., when selected dance and musical performances will begin.
