Elderly Woman Dies in SJ Crash

Geneva Johnson became San Jose's 12th traffic-related fatality this year.

A woman who was killed Wednesday afternoon when a minivan crashed into a tree in South San Jose has been identified as Geneva Johnson, 82, of Morgan Hill.

Originally, San Jose police said the victim was a 73-year-old man.

But Friday, Sgt. Jason Dwyer said the initial information he received from the scene was incorrect. The driver lived and his passenger died.

The 73-year-old man had been driving a 2003 Dodge minivan and lost control, swerving into a tree on  Monterey Highway near Edenview Drive, police said. Police have not yet disclosed what caused the driver to lose control.

Johnson became San Jose's 12th traffic-related fatality this year.
