SF Sherriff Ross Mirkarimi's Wife Eliana Lopez Stars in One-Woman Play About Their Domestic Violence Scandal

San Francisco Sherriff Ross Mirkarimi's wife Eliana Lopez will star in a one-woman play about their domestic violence scandal that led to his suspension from office in 2012.

Written by Lopez's brother Alfonso, 'Cuál Es el Escándalo?' — Spanish for 'What Is the Scandal?' — opens on May 29 at San Francisco's Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts.

“I made this play because I need to do it,” Lopez told KQED News. “I need to say my side of the story.” Mirkarimi was put on trial for domestic violence despite her refusal to cooperate with authorities at the time.

According to IMDB, the Venezuelan born Lopez has appeared as a professional actress in several telenovelas. In 2002, she was a finalist on a reality television program called 'Popstars: Columbia' but did not ultimately make the pop group that was assembled on the show.

Mirkarimi plans to run for re-election in November.
