Famous Marin Cat Adopted by Elvis Impersonator

Famous, well-traveled cat that rode in van from Marin to Santa Cruz adopted.

The cat that survived a wild ride atop a van's engine block from Marin to Santa Cruz is now safe in the arms of a police officer who also impersonates Elvis Presley.

Bill Palmini, 67, of Novato, adopted the cat on Wednesday from the Marin Humane Society, who had been in possession of the heretofore unknown and unclaimed feline since its wild ride last month.

The cat somehow climbed into the engine compartment of a van while the driver had it parked in Strawberry, the Marin Independent Journal reported. The cat was discovered when the van's driver stopped for gas in Santa Cruz.

The cat was put up for adoption after no owners came forward, the newspaper reported.

Palmini, who heads the police department at UC Hastings in San Francisco, said he might name the cat -- described as "loving and social" despite her odd experience -- Tiegress.
