A Santa Clara County jail inmate who escaped from custody has been arrested by U.S. Marshals in Mississippi, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office.
Law enforcement officials have been searching for Johnell Carter since he escaped on March 6, shortly after fighting and injuring a deputy while on an out-of-jail visit to Valley Medical Center.
Carter, 40, is an accused sex offender, officials said.
On March 26, Santa Clara County sheriff's deputies arrested Carter's brother, Joseph Carter in Lodi, for assisting him as an accessory after the fact.
No other information was immediately available late Tuesday.
