Ex-Girlfriend Stabs 62-Year-Old Man in Menlo Park: Police

Menlo Park police officers arrested a woman Sunday in the alleged stabbing of a 62-year-old man who was previously in a dating relationship with her, police said.

At about 6:30 p.m. Sunday, police received a call from the Stanford Hospital emergency room, where doctors were treating the man for multiple stab wounds.

After an investigation, officers arrested Redwood City resident Karen Coats, 49, and booked her into San Mateo County Jail on suspicion of domestic violence and assault with a deadly weapon.

Police said Coats and the victim were in an argument in a parking lot in the 1100 block of El Camino Real when the confrontation escalated and Coats stabbed the man with a steak knife. She then took the man to the hospital to be treated, according to police.

The injuries were not considered life-threatening, police said.
