Express Toll Lanes Proposed for Highway 101 in South Bay

Traffic on 101 in the South Bay is headache-inducing.

This highway gets packed in some places, and it’s the focus of a meeting Wednesday night.

South Bay transportation leaders will ask for feedback on a plan to turn carpool lanes into express toll lanes.

The changes would impact highway 101 between Palo Alto and Morgan Hill.

It would allow solo drivers willing to pay to use the lanes along with standard carpoolers during commute hours.

The express lanes would be similar to ones already in place on the Sunol Grade on Highway 680.

The VTA will hold its third and final public meeting on this issue on Feb. 4, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Southside Community Center, 5585 Cottle Road, San Jose.
