FBI Releases Images of Suspects in Gold Nugget Heist at Wells Fargo Museum

The FBI released images Thursday of surveillance video from inside the Wells Fargo Museum in San Francisco where a trio of thieves ripped off gold nuggets earlier this week.

The crisp photos show two of the three suspects, all described as men, wearing ski masks and gloves, and standing about six feet tall, as they broke into the museum about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, ransacked the building and made off with what appeared to be a display case, according to FBI Special Agent Brian Weber. San Francisco police had said earlier said the suspects made off with about 10 ounces of gold valued at about $10,000.

Weber said one of the suspects rammed a Chevy Suburban into the building, while the two other suspects waited nearby in a separate car parked at the curb. All three entered the museum at 420 Montgomery Street after the SUV created a gaping hole in the museum.

Once inside, one of the suspects held a pistol to a guard's head, Weber said. The suspects ransacked the building, and fled with an undisclosed amount of merchandise, in the sedan, leaving the Chevy inside the building, shattered glass left behind.

One of the surveillance images shows a man dressed in black pants, boots and a grey hooded sweatshirt lifting off plastic case inside the museum.  Another man is seen dressed in a blue vest and hoodie, and a red long sleeve shirt. He is seen standing to the left of the dark Chevy Suburban that rammed inside the building, leaving shattered glass all over the vehicle and floor of the museum.
