Family of Girl Fatally Shot in Oakland Seek Funds for Funeral Expenses

The family of 8-year-old Alaysha Carradine, who was fatally shot when she was at a friend's home at a sleepover last week, is seeking help in paying for her funeral expenses, according to Oakland City Councilwoman Libby Schaaf.

Alaysha was one of four people hit by gunfire when someone fired shots into an apartment at 3440 Wilson St. in the city's Dimond district at about 11:15 p.m. on July 17.

The other three victims survived but Alaysha, who would have been a third-grader at Fruitvale Elementary School in the fall, was killed.

Oakland police haven't disclosed a motive for the shooting or released any information about a suspect in the case.

Schaaf, who represents the area where the shooting occurred, said Alaysha's family needs $4,200 to cover her funeral expenses and has raised about $5,000 so far.

People who want to help may send a check to Roselawn Cemetery at 26295 Mission Blvd., Hayward, CA, 94544. They should use reference number R3982.
