Fans Celebrate Warriors First NBA Title in 40 Years

Golden State Warriors fans took to the streets late Tuesday to celebrate the the team's first NBA championship in 40 years.

The Warriors earlier in the evening defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 105-97 in Game 6 of the NBA Finals, closing out the series 4-2.

While the game was played in Cleveland, Ohio, a raucous sellout crowd filled the Warriors' home court, Oracle Arena in Oakland, paying $15 per person to attend a watch party as Golden State clinched the title.

Shortly after the Warriors clinched the NBA title, Oracle Arena held a fireworks show to celebrate the team's title.

Police in Oakland and San Francisco -- the Warriors' once and likely future home -- said that they have staffed extra officers Tuesday night in anticipation of celebrations if Golden State won.

Crowds in downtown Oakland gathered to celebrate and light off fireworks.

Oakland police late Tueday responded to reports of gunshots fired at multiple locations throughout the city after the Warriors clinched the title.

Details about specific incidents and locations were not immediately available.

The 12th Street Oakland City Center BART station was temporarily shut down late Tuesday because of crowds celebrating the Golden State Warriors' NBA title.

BART officials announced the closure at 10 p.m. The station reopened at about 10:40 p.m.

The Warriors last won the NBA championship in 1975 when they defeated the Washington Bullets. Oakland's last sports title was the Oakland A's baseball team, which won the World Series in 1989.
