Fast Start for Bay Area Bike Share

The bikes are being shared -- and that's good.

The Bay Area Bike Share is rolling in the right direction, with 14,591 trips in its first 18 days, according to the San Francisco Examiner.

There are 34 stations where the "sea foam-green" bicycles can be found, and more throughout the Peninsula. And in San Francisco, the program is "very popular," according to the newspaper.

There are 700 bikes scattered about the Peninsula and San Francisco now, with 35- of those in the city proper. There will be 1,000 by early next year.

Users can buy annual memberships or use bikes on a per-day basis.
