A woman in her 20s died, and a young man and child were injured in a car crash early Friday morning in Berkeley, according to police.

Sgt. Mary Kusmiss said the car struck a tree about 1:15 a.m. on California Street and Allston Way.

The woman died at the scene, and the driver, in his 20s, and a child were taken to the hospital with serious injuries, Kusmiss said.

Kusmiss did not disclose any information about the occupants of the car, including their genders or names, until she could talk to their families.

This is Berkeley's second fatal collision this year. The other one was on Jan. 30, when a car fatally struck a young man on a skateboard.
