Pedestrian Accident Leaves Man Near Death

Kiling punctuates recent report that California is a dangerous place to walk.

San Francisco Police are investigating an accident that occurred at the intersection of Lombard and Pierce at about 1:20am. The victim is in critical condition, with life-threatening injuries.

The vehicle was going east bound Pierce when the victim was struck in the intersection, according to SFPD.

The victim is a 22-year-old male. The driver of the vehicle was a 30-year-old male. The driver reported seeing the male victim hit the car but did not see the victim before the accident.  The direction of the pedestrian has not been determined.

The case is being investigated by the force's "Hit and Run Detail" and alcohol does not seem to be a factor in this case.

A recent pedestrian safety report listed the most dangerous California counties and cities to walk, based on proportion of fatalities to overall population. In the Bay Area, Vallejo topped the most-dangerous city list, with San Jose coming in sixth. Daly City was 18th, Oakland 29th and San Francisco 51st.
