Peninsula Cyclist Killed by Truck is Identified

A 58-year-old San Mateo woman has been identified as the bicyclist  who was hit and killed by a truck in Redwood City Wednesday morning, San Mateo  County Coroner Robert Foucrault said.

Mary Yonkers was riding her bicycle when she was struck by the  truck shortly before 8 a.m. at the intersection of Shoreway Road and Holly  Street, police said.

The driver, who told police he didn't know he had hit someone, was not arrested, Sgt. Eric Stasiak said.

The accident was reported just before 8 a.m. at the intersection of Shoreway Road and Holly Street.

Witnesses told police the that a vehicle with red paneling that looked like a dump truck was making a right onto Holly Street from southbound Shoreway Road.  The victim tried to pass the truck as it turned, but she was struck and some part of the truck rolled over her, police said.

Yonkers died at the scene.
