Firefighters battled a one-alarm fire at a marijuana grow site inside a warehouse in East Oakland Thursday morning that started, officials said, because of an electrical problem due to illegal wiring.
The fire at 1232 51st Ave. in an auto body repair shop near East 12th Street, was reported at 4:17 a.m. Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control by 4:38 a.m., fire officials said.
Fire officials also said there was a fire extinguisher on scene, indicating that someone had tried to extinguish the fire before crews arrived. There were no flames seen from the street; only smoke.
