Fire Displaces 9 at Apartment in East Oakland: Fire Officials

Firefighters extinguished an apartment fire in East Oakland Sunday afternoon, leaving at least nine people displaced, according to the Oakland fire officials.

The blaze burned on the second floor of a building in the 3800 block of 39th Avenue, near Bayo Street, with heavy smoke and flames showing, fire officials said.

Six people were displaced from the unit that caught fire, and three others were displaced from the unit below due to water damage, fire officials said.

No injuries were immediately reported.

Investigators believe the cause of the blaze may have been electrical, fire officials said.
