Fire Near Six Flags Discovery Kingdom Shuts Down Several Rides

Smoke from a grass fire in Dan Foley Park shut down rides at the west end of Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo Wednesday afternoon, a spokeswoman for the amusement park said.

Two of the rides reopened, but embers from the blaze burned the thatch roof of the Thrilla Gorilla spin coaster ride, spokeswoman Nancy Chan said. The Monkey Business spinning coconut ride also was closed, Chan said.

All the animals were removed from the west side of the park, Chan said.

Vallejo Fire Department Capt. John Ha said the one-alarm grass fire in Dan Foley Park started around 2:24 p.m. Firefighters also responded to the one-alarm smoldering roof fire at the park, Ha said.

The fire at Dan Foley Park is out and firefighters were doing overhaul late Wednesday afternoon, Ha said.

Dan Foley Park and Six Flags Discovery Kingdom are separated by Lake Chabot in west Vallejo.

No injuries have been reported.
