Firefighters responded to a two-alarm blaze Tuesday night at a library in the unincorporated Contra Costa County community of El Sobrante, a fire dispatcher said.

According to a Contra Costa County Fire Protection District dispatcher, the fire was first reported at 8:20 p.m. at the El Sobrante Library at 4191 Appian Way.

It took firefighters roughly 40 minutes to gain control of the blaze, which started externally before spreading into the roof the library, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Capt. George Laing said.

It's not clear at this time what sparked the blaze, but it is considered to be suspicious, according to fire officials.
