17-Year-Old Girl Killed in San Jose Crash

A teen girl was killed in a Friday afternoon crash in San Jose.

The accident, which closed multiple lanes at the intersection of North First Street and Tasman Drive, was reported just after 4 p.m.

Police said the accident involved two cars. A car with a pair of 17 year olds -- a male and female -- ended up sideways into a pole. Investigators are unsure why the vehicle crashed, but said speed may have been a factor. The two teens were reportedly headed to a friend's house.

The male, who was the driver, was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

A second car carrying a family of four was also involved. None of the passengers in that vehicle were injured.

Police said they do not think drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. The collision remains under investigation.
