Fire on San Bruno Mountain in Brisbane Under Control

A brush fire on San Bruno Mountain drew a lot of attention Thrusday as it burned 11 acres in the hills above Brisbane before fire crews quickly got it under control.

Voluntary evacuations have been lifted.

The blaze caused concern among neighbors as it burned just before noon dangerously close to some houses — amid PG&E's power safety shutoffs and a red flag warning.

"They were just trying to figure out how to go about it, and then all of a sudden they headed up and started dropping the chemicals from the helicopter," said Nadia Atiq, who lives just at the bottom of the hill where the fire burned.

Officials were prepared to evacuate the area if it became necessary, but no mandatory evacuations were ever ordered.

"There were no evacuations, just an evacuation warning was issued," said Clyde Prestion, a fire inspector. "We had our law enforcement officers ready if we did have to do that."

The cause of the fire is not yet known. Crews are expected to remain on scene to prevent flareups.
