A large two-alarm fire damaged a residential unit on the upper floor of a Potrero Hill building this afternoon but caused no injuries, according to fire officials.
The fire at 2210 19th St. was reported at 2:42 p.m. by residents in the area who saw a large plume of smoke coming from the two-story building, according to fire department spokesman Jonathan Baxter.
The smoke also alerted a fire engine company in the area. They were able to respond before the fire was even dispatched, Baxter said.
Firefighters were able to keep the fire contained to the building where it started and had it under control by 2:51 p.m.
The occupants of a dental office and small boutique on the first floor were alerted by neighbors to the fire and got out without injury, Baxter said.
The two-story building's owners, who live in a unit on the top floor, were away from the building at the time along with their two dogs.
They will be displaced from their home, which bore the brunt of the damage, Baxter said.

The dental office will also be displaced for an unknown period, but the store might be able to reopen after some cleanup, Baxter said.
The fire's cause remains under investigation.
Vermont and 19th streets remain closed in the area around the fire and residents are asked to continue avoiding the area.
