Five Arrested in Stoning Death of Homeless Santa Cruz Man

    Santa Cruz police have arrested five people in connection with the beating and stoning death of a 51-year-old homeless man at a campsite last week.

    Police on Tuesday announced the arrests of: Tina Anderson, 43; Jason Michael Weiland, 31; Jeremiah James Long, 26; Shaelyn Zeabbe Gonzales, 21; and Michael Valgene Hudson, 41, who were all taken into custody over the weekend.

    At this point, investigators said they are trying to determine if there are any more suspects.

    Police said they are aware that there was a fight at the campsite, but they are not sure over what.

    Police spokesman Zach Friend told the Santa Cruz Sentinel that the victim - Charles Robert Powers - was beaten with rocks and a skateboard.
