New Designs for Land Above Crissy Field Unveiled

What will the 13 acres of new grassland above the rebuilt Doyle Drive look like?

Depends on who you ask.

Five designs for the land near Crissy Field were unveiled Thursday. The designs are for an area that at one point may have contained George Lucas' dearly-departed museum.

And while all include a place for children to play, as per the rules of the Presidio Trust, they vary wildly, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

One, by the same architects who designed the new San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, has a "naturalistic" bent, the Chron's architecture critic John King reported.

Another, designed by the minds behind the High Line in New York City, has "boomerang-like curves" for "maximum effect," King wrote.

A Netherlands-based team would cover the twin tunnels through which US-101 traffic would travel with "an enormous sculpted bowl," the newspaper reported.
