Former 49er Bubba Paris Pleads Guilty to Failing to File Tax Return

A former San Francisco 49ers offensive lineman who became a motivational speaker has pleaded guilty in federal court in Oakland to one count of failing to file a tax turn for the 2006 tax year.

William "Bubba" Paris, 53, of Discovery Bay, entered the plea on Wednesday and will be sentenced by U.S. Magistrate Kandis Westmore in Oakland on Feb. 21. The maximum penalty is one year in prison.

Paris played for the 49ers from 1983 through 1990, during a time when the team won three Super Bowl championships.

In 1985, he founded a motivational speaking business called Paris Enterprises.

Paris admitted during the plea to failing to file a federal tax return on $57,187 in income earned from his business in 2006.

Paris was originally charged in February with a total of three misdemeanor counts of failing to file returns for 2006, 2007 and 2008.

Although he pleaded guilty to only one count, he admitted in a written guilty plea that he also did not file returns on $83,856 earned from the business in 2007 and $41,700 in 2008.

Paris agreed in the plea bargain to pay restitution of $126,530 to the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.
