Fremont Mayor Bob Wasserman Passes Away

Mayor served the city since 1976.

Fremont Mayor Bob Wasserman passed away Thursday with his family by his side.

The 77-year-old has been the mayor of Fremont since 2004 but he began working for the city in 1976 as its chief of police.

"Mayor Wasserman served the residents of Fremont for 35 years with distinction and dedication," Vice Mayor Anu Natarajan said. "On behalf of the City Council, I offer heartfelt condolences to the Wasserman family."

Wasserman passed away at the Fremont Kaiser Permanente hospital. No cause of death was given.

Natarajan will serve as the mayor until the city council appoints a new one within the next 60 days.
