Fremont Police Seek Public's Help in Tracking Gold Chain Thieves

Police in Fremont are asking the public for help in tracking down two suspects who robbed a woman outside a Wal-Mart nearly a week ago.

Officers responded to a report of a robbery Friday night in the Wal-Mart parking lot at 44009 Osgood Road, police said.

The victim, a 70-year-old woman, was with her family shopping at the store at about 9:20 p.m. Upon exiting the store, she was approached from behind by a suspect who grabbed her gold necklace, according to police.

After a brief struggle, the suspect slammed the woman to the ground and he ran a short distance to an awaiting getaway car, police said.

The woman was transported to a hospital to be treated for a broken hip, which required surgery.

A review of video surveillance revealed that two suspects apparently stalked the victim inside the store, with a male suspect gesturing a shooting motion at the woman as his target, according to police.

The suspects followed the family outside the store and then robbed her.

The male suspect is described as 18 to 25 years old, white or Hispanic, standing about 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-10 with a medium build.

He has short dark hair with close faded sides, last seen wearing a black shirt and jeans.

The female suspect, around 17 to 25 years old, is Hispanic, about 5-foot-2 to 5-foot-6 with a small build. She has brown hair pulled into a bun or short ponytail, and was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and shorts.

They fled in a silver or gray Hyundai four-door car with tinted rear windows, police said.

Anyone with information about the incident or the suspects' whereabouts is asked to call Fremont police at 510-790-6900.
